How many people are on each dive trip?
Most dive trips have between 4 and 10 customers on the boat. The max capacity for the boat is 14 plus the crew.

What type of marine life can I expect to see during a dive?
Turtles, Nurse Sharks, Reef Sharks, Moray Eels, Splendid Toad Fish, Seahorses, and an abundance of different fish. There is no shortage of marine life in Cozumel.

How deep are the dives and how long do they last?
The first dive of the day is generally the deepest, down to approximately 80’. The second dive is much shallower at approximately 50’.

How far are the dive sites from the marina?
Once we depart the marina, it takes 15-20 minutes to get to the most southern dive sites.

What time do the trips depart and return?
The standard schedule for a two-tank dive trip departs at 9:30 and returns around 1:30.

Do you offer dives for all experience levels, including beginners?
Yes, absolutely. We cater to divers of all experience levels, especially beginners. Our referral diver program is designed to create a safe, comfortable, low stress environment for new divers.

Do you offer Nitrox?
Yes. You can upgrade to 32% Nitrox for an additional $7 per trip. Must be Nitrox certified.

Do you have larger tanks (100-cf.) available?
Yes. You can upgrade to a 100-cf. tank for an additional $5 per trip.

Is there a minimum number of logged dives required?
No. Certified divers of any experience level are welcome to dive with us.

Are there any age or health restrictions for diving?
- Divers aged 10-15 are called Junior Divers. They must be accompanied by a parent and not exceed 40’ in depth. Otherwise, there are no age restrictions.
- All divers must complete a medical form prior to diving. If you’re unsure of your medical condition, please consult your doctor.

What’s the best time of year to dive in Cozumel?
Cozumel really is a divers dream, with crystal-clear waters and comfortable temperatures all year round. The dry season runs from November to April, with temperatures ranging from 75 – 85 degrees. The wet season runs from May to October. During this time, the weather is hot and humid with temperatures ranging from 85 – 95 degrees. Ultimately, there is no bad time to dive in Cozumel.

How do I book a dive trip with American Reef Scuba?
All our dive trips are booked through our custom website. Choose your type of dive, choose your dates, complete the diver information form and check out using our secure online payment system.

Where do you meet for the dives?
You can either board the boat at Marina Fonatur (see map) or we can pick you up at your hotel dock, if it is located south of the marina.

How do I get to the marina from the cruise or ferry pier?
Taxi is the best and fastest method. Fares will range from $10 to $20. I recommend you talk to the driver and settle on a price before you get into the taxi.

Do I have to pay the Marine Park Fee?
Yes. Every diver is required to pay the daily $11 marine park fee. This will be added to the cost of your dives.

What safety measures are in place in case of an emergency?
All the American Reef Scuba staff members are certified CPR, First-Aid, and O2 providers. There is also a first aid and O2 kit on the boat.

Do I need to be certified to dive with American Reef Scuba?
Yes. You need to be a certified Open Water Diver, or you can complete your training referral dives with us and become certified.
